Clos des Chênes

Extremely well situated within the appellation, this parcel of a little under 0.4 ha at the bottom of the 'clos', overlooks the superb vineyard of 'les Caillerets'.

The clay soil is lighter in colour and of average depth. The subsoil is composed of fairly soft limestone rock. Facing east, towards the top of the slope, the site ripens later than other Volnays we have.

The vines are 30 years old, mass selected from the finer vines and grafted onto SO4. They produce 25 to 40 hl/ ha on average. A healthy parcel but not particularly vigorous.

The wines are very fine with subtle and smooth tannins. Violet and red fruit aromas dominate. Very seductive, they are model examples of the Volnay appellation which are considered very feminine.
